A recent report released by the British Cleaning Council showed just how important the Cleaning industry is to the UK Economy with a contribution of 24 billion pounds. It also showed that the industry is one of the biggest employers in the UK with over 700,000 people employed across the sector.
The report also showed a wage growth of 6.4%, in the sector which is much higher than the national average of 2.3% and turnover has increased by 21% since the recession of 2010. Add to that projections for a shift towards people within the industry holding higher qualifications, it is expected that by 2024 over 50% of people employed will be qualified at level 4 or above.
More small businesses started up in the cleaning industry than in any other sector too, the national average was shown to be 9% compared to 12% for the cleaning industry and growth in the industry is expected to continue.
This is important research for the cleaning sector and shows the true value of what we offer to the UK economy. USS are proud to be one of the companies within the sector that pays above minimum wage to all its staff, promotes from within and has seen continual growth over the past 5 years.
