Dangerous superbugs have been discovered on the underground network resulting in deep cleans being scheduled every night for the rest of the summer.
Researchers at the London Metropolitan University found over 100 different types of bacteria and mould on London’s public transport system including 8 of the most threatening bacteria to human health and it’s no surprise that the busy Victoria line was deemed to the be the worst.
Stations and tunnels will continue to be cleaned overnight and industrial vacuum cleaners and magnetic wands will be used.
Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London said ‘Tube staff and millions of passenger’s use the underground regularly and they deserve to be able to breathe the cleanest air possible’ and Mark Wild. managing Director of the London Underground said ‘We have been monitoring dust levels on the tube for years but as scientific understanding of the effects of the dust particles develops, we are ensuring that we are using the latest research and doing everything possible to keep the air underground clean’.
Stations will be tested to monitor dust levels and an air quality monitoring programme will be available to view on the Tfl website www.tfl.gov.uk
