It’s important when selecting a vacuum cleaner that you look for one that is durable and robust and it features high filtration and high airflow.
Think about what you are going to be using it for and where and ensure the dust extraction is fit for purpose.
Conventional dust extraction units require the user to empty the vacuum but if the vacuum is to be used to clean hazardous airborne particles you will need to invest in a vacuum that has a safe bagging system.
Vacuums that are used for domestic use are not always suitable for a commercial setting too, it may be that it would be better to invest in an industrial vacuum. This may be a more expensive initial outlay but will save you money in the long run as it will perform better and last longer.
If you are working on a long range project i.e. a high level multi storey building then a pre-separator is worth investing in. it can be used on the working floor whilst the vacuum remains on the ground floor up to 150 metres away, this saves having to move the industrial vacuum from floor to floor and reduces the risk of manual handling injuries occurring.
Another key component is the filter, there are three types of filter, low, medium and high. A medium class filter is the most commonly used although all vacuums are fitted with a low and medium filter in order for them to function correctly but a high filter is beneficial for collecting very fine particles of dust. H filter vacuums will have a H sticker on them.
Finally, if you have an area where spillages occur or that gets wet, invest in a wet/dry vacuum and regardless of what the vacuum is being used for and where, be sure that it is easy to operate and move from area to area.
