The British Cleaning Council have published the most comprehensive research ever undertaken into the UK’s cleaning industry. The 60 page paper includes data from across the cleaning, waste management, landscaping and FM sectors for the first time ever,
Employment was a key point of the research and the paper showed that across all four sectors, 19% of employees are foreign born but this rises to 28% in commercial cleaning and the number of employees in total across the sectors stands in the region of 900,000.
With the uncertainty of Brexit, older people retiring and leaving the industry and a predicted growth rate of 9% over the next five years, the research reveals fundamental challenges ahead including a shortage of skills and experience so it is more important than ever to invest in our staff within the cleaning sector and ensure that they feel valued and in high regard.
