The cleaning and hygiene sector employs over 1.6 million people and generates turnover in excess of £54 billion yet it has taken until 2021 for the sector to have a voice in parliament but what a major development it is.
The APPG (All Party Parliamentary Group) consists of 53 MPs from all 6 parliamentary parties plus 3 members of the House of Lords and has been set up to help ensure all MPs, ministers and government are aware of the vital work that is undertaken by the sector and that the sector is recognised for its contributions to the health and wellbeing of our country and the economy.
The last 12 months has highlighted just how important cleaning and hygiene should be and we would like to think that the improvements that have been made by many businesses are here to stay.
Targets for the industry as a whole and the APPG are:-
- Recognition
- Promotion of Real Living Wage
- Adoption / Recognition of Universal Training
- Zero Tolerance of Non Compliance to Modern Slavery Act
- Sustainability & Environment
- Mental Health Awareness & Best Practice
USS will certainly be keeping abreast of matters raised by the APPG and will share all relevant information with our followers.
