Is your flooring looking a bit like the weather, flat, dull or grey? Whether you have carpet, laminate, vinyl or hardwood, here’s our guide to help you keep your flooring looking it’s best.
Carpet
Be sure to schedule a deep steam clean of your carpets every 6 months after vacuuming, it will be like an instant facelift for your carpets. Make sure though that you allow 24 hours for drying and select the method best suited to your type of carpet.
Laminate
Although laminate is hard and durable, it still needs a good cleaning regime. Use a dry mop regularly for general cleaning or a slightly damp mop for spot cleaning, if your mop is too wet the water will get under the planks and damage the floor.
It’s also important that you never polish laminate flooring as it will remove the protective coating and that you act quickly on spillages to avoid stains.
Regularly vacuum your laminate flooring using the tile mode or to avoid any scratching use a soft brush.
Then every few months give your laminate a thorough clean with warm water and a specialist laminate cleaner, mop lightly and make sure you wring the mop out well.
Vinyl
Chemicals, dirt and grit brought in from outside are the worst enemies to your vinyl flooring so doormats are essential to remove these prior to walking on the floor.
Sweep regularly with a soft broom and use delicate cleaning methods only, a damp mop and warm water will do the trick.
Hardwood
The key to protecting your hardwood is to know what finish you have, an easy way to do this is to run your fingers across the surface and if it smudges you have a waxed finish floor.
Wax floors should be swept and not mopped and vacuumed regularly.
Have scratches on the floor, use a crayon in the same colour tone, rub onto the scratch to fill and using a hairdryer, blow dry the area. This will heat the crayon and then you can buff with a soft cloth.
Sealed floors should be mopped with a damp mop using simply a mild soap and warm water and then any excess moisture can be removed with a micro-fibre cloth.
Using boiling water and two teabags that have been allowed to steep, you can also give your floor a fantastic sheen finish by simply wiping the mixture over the floor using a damp cloth.
All of these methods are easy for you to carry out and suitable for keeping your floors at home looking their best but if you have a commercial property and are looking for a cleaning service provider to keep your floors in tip top condition then feel free to give us a call, we specialise in marble and granite renovation and maintenance too.
