We believe that we have a responsibility to not only those that work for us but to those in the wider community too which goes beyond just caring for the environment, this is termed social sustainability and for us there’s three P’s in Sustainability – People, Planet and Profit.
People
Ensuring people receive a fair wage on which they can afford to live is key to our success and all of our cleaning operatives received the national living wage or above prior to it becoming a legal requirement on the 1st April 2016 and we continue to review our wages on a regular basis. Paying fair is not only morally the right thing to do but it also increases staff loyalty and commitment. In addition to the salaries we pay, we recognise and reward hard work with our employee of the month award and financial bonus.
For our business to be sustainable , we need to have long term relationships with not only our customers but with our staff too. Due to length of service, our employees have developed a strong understanding of our working practices and our customer’s requirements which ultimately results in us being able to provide a better and more consistent level of service.
Planet
When people thing about cleaning they nearly always make a link to the harmful chemicals present in many cleaning products and the high volume of products used and this is why the green aspect of sustainability is important. As a company we have a long-standing commitment to reducing our impact on the environment and are always looking at greener options which will enable us to do that. All of our contract cleaning clients are monitored on a regular basis which has led to a reduction in the volume of materials used meaning a more positive impact and a reduction in costs which brings us nicely onto the third P.
Profit
Profit is often overlooked when thinking about sustainability but a healthy profit margin is necessary if a business is to be around in the long term, companies must be able to invest to guarantee continuity of service, provision of materials and employment opportunities. Caring for the environment and caring for people is good for business and our business successes and increase in workforce indicate we must be doing something right. It’s important for us to be proactive in our approach, anticipate future issues and adapt accordingly and ensure sustainability is embedded in our company ethos.
